Facebook is known for making opportunities out of crises. The social media mogul is all set to enter the e-commerce world by launching their new venture, ‘Shops’, that brings together millions of small businesses struggling to make ends meet

“Right now, many small businesses are struggling, and with stores closing, more are looking to bring their business online. Our goal is to make shopping seamless and empower anyone from a small business owner to a global brand to use our apps to connect with customers, says Facebook, in an official statement inviting businesses.

What are ‘Facebook Shops’?

This new venture is aimed at converting Facebook and Instagram to virtual shopping stores. With the new feature, small businesses will be able to directly sell products through the core platforms of Facebook via online storefronts and will get access to millions of Facebook customers.

The feature would soon be introduced in WhatsApp and Messenger.

How does it work?

As of now, one can set up an online store free-of-cost. After setting up a shop, one can also personalize their shop with a unique cover image and accent colors. Customers will be able to find them through the Facebook page/Instagram handle of these businesses. Interestingly, a user can browse through the collection and can make an order without leaving the app.

A user will be able to contact the store directly through Messenger for all queries, including order details, payment, and tracking. The social media platform is also looking into the possibilities of real-time shopping.

When will it be available?

The feature is already available for Facebook users in the United States. It’s expected to roll out on Instagram soon. The company will be introducing the feature globally in the coming few days.
