Facebook Launches Dating App: Is it Different from Tinder?

Facebook is moving from ‘Like’ to ‘Love’. The giant has entered a new space by debuting its online dating service in the U.S.

Through a separate tab within the Facebook app, you can meet potential romantic partners among your friends of friends or completely outside of your friend network.

You just need to create a dating profile and enter basic information like height, religion, job title, education. Facebook also gives the flexibility to import your information from your Facebook profiles.

How is Dating Different from Tinder?

Standing tall against long-established rivals like Tinder and OkCupid, Facebook claims to be different.

  1. Making Connection

Facebook doesn’t believe in swiping mechanism. To choose someone, you need to respond directly to one of the potential date’s photos or questions.

  • Secret Crush

A feature called Secret Crush lets you pick up to nine Facebook Friends, if you wish. You won’t see your friends unless you use this feature. If you both wish to give it a shot, you’ll get a notification.

  • Safety

Facebook goes high with the safety feature that lets you share details about your upcoming dates with your friends or family, including your real-time location. So, if anything goes wrong, you have somebody to watch your back.

  • Instagram Integration

Dating’s integration with Instagram lets you display your recent Instagram photos on your profile. Going forward, you can expect to add Facebook and Instagram stories as well.

  • Pricing

Facebook’s Dating is free and involves no ads. It lets you express interest in up to 100 matches a day by tapping on a heart button on someone’s profile or commenting on their photo. If your crush reciprocates, you can strike up a conversation in the messaging section.
