CEO and founder Bhavish Aggarwal has tweeted on 3rd Aug, thanking people for booking the scooter. He announced the launch date as the 15th of August and said he will share the detailed specifications and availability dates soon.
The CEO then posted a picture of the Ola electric scooter as the Twitterati cheered in the replies. He has been active on the platform, sharing random details and tidbits about the scooter and drumming up interest.
Bhavish Aggarwal even conducted a Twitter poll, asking if people prefer to buy scooters online or from the dealership stores. 60.1% voted for online purchase, with the scooter being directly delivered to their homes.
Things We Know So Far
The Ola electric scooter will be available in 10 colors that include pastels, matte, and gloss. The social media promotions seem to be paying off as the company claims that there have been one lac bookings within the first 24 hours of the announcement. We are yet to know the exact number of bookings.
The scooter is said to have the best under-seat storage compartment when compared to other models in the same segment. The scooter will also offer mobile app-based access. It is estimated that the Ola electric scooter will provide up to 150 km with a single full charge.
The CEO has conducted another poll asking his followers about the top speed expected from the scooter. Though the poll results show that 49.4% of them want more than 100 kmph, it’s likely that the speed will be around 80 kmph.
While we do not know the actual price of the scooter, it is speculated to be around Rs. 1.5 lacs or less.
The bookings are still open at Rs. 499/-. Let’s hope the Ola electric scooter sets a new trend in the market for more electric vehicles to follow.
A piece of interesting news is that another electric scooter, “Simple One” is also set to be launched on the same day.
