TikTok proves its mettle in the social media world. It has shown exceptional performance in the global app universe by surpassing 1.5 billion downloads on Apple and Google app stores.

The short video-making app is recently making some hustle and giving good competition to the giants in the social media world. Additionally, as per the research firm SensorTower, the biggest contributor to this achievement is India, contributing almost a third (468 million) of the TikTok’s massive global app installs.

SensorTower also says that the video-making app has been downloaded 614 million times this year. This is six per cent higher than the last year’s figures at this time. The analytics firm further reveals that the app has witnessed 655 million unique downloads last year.

What’s Interesting?

An interesting fact is that TikTok has become the third most downloaded non-gaming app WhatsApp (707.4 million) and Messenger (636.2 million). It has even left behind the giants like Facebook (587 million) and Instagram (376.2 million).

The ByteDance-owned short-video platform has revolutionised the social media world attracting the users even from the remotest corners of the globe. Owing to its craze among users, Facebook, earlier this month, launched a TikTok-like feature called ‘Reels’ in Instagram Stories in Brazil.

The social network has been trying to surpass TikTok in many ways. But, it hasn’t found a way to beat it yet.

Interestingly, TikTok’s revenues too saw a rise this year. In 2019, lifespan user spend on the app has hit $175 million worldwide across Apple and Google app stores.

The major contribution has come from the Chinese users of around $84.5 million, more than 48 per cent of the entire revenue.

Going forward, TikTok says that it will focus on providing innovative user experience to its users.
