How to Fix iPhone Stuck on Apple Logo (Solved: Mac + Windows)

Reading Time: 4 minutes

As usual, as it sounds, I updated the iOS on my iPhone 6S and was waiting for long for the screen to proceed beyond the Apple logo. As some minutes passed, I realized it isn’t a part of the update or a delayed start-up. My iPhone was stuck on the Apple logo! The situation further got scarier when it remained stuck like that for many hours.

I immediately called one of my techie friends who told me the potential reasons as to why it could happen.

What actually caused my iPhone to get stuck with Apple Logo?

iPhone getting stuck on Apple logo can be a by product of any of the following actions:

  • Software Upgrade
  • Jailbreak
  • Hardware issues
  • Restore from iTunes or iCloud

Bingo! There it matched my reason. I just updated the software. But what do I do now?

‘Don’t panic’, my friend said. iPhones getting stuck on Apple logo is one of the most common issues, and there are a lot of ways to fix it.

He told me to try the most basic solution first and check if it works out for me. So, here’s what I did.

First solution: Force Restart

This is the first and the easiest thing to do when your iPhone is stuck at Apple logo. A forced restart or rebooting does not do any harm to the device or the data. However, this method won’t work unless your device has a minor problem. Although it did not work for me, it’s worth trying out.

For iPhone 6S and earlier versions, iPad and iPod Touch

  • Press and hold the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons simultaneously.
  • Keep holding till Apple logo appears and the restart process starts.

For iPhone 7

  • Start by pressing both the Side and Volume Down buttons simultaneously.
  • Keep holding till Apple logo appears and the restart process starts.

For iPhone X and iPhone 8

  • Press and release the Volume Up button.
  • Press and release the Volume Down button.
  • Then, press and hold the Side button until the restart process begins.

If the device reboots normally, you have successfully fixed the issue.

For me, my iPhone was still stuck on Apple logo. I then followed the next step in the process.

Second solution: Recovery Mode

I followed these steps to proceed with the recovery:

  • Open iTunes on your computer.
  • Connect your iPhone to the system using a USB cable.
  • Select your iPhone model when required in iTunes.
  • Select Update to let iTunes reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
  • If you don’t see Update option, select Restore Backup.
  • Locate the iOS backup file that you want to keep.
  • Click Restore to confirm and wait for the restore to finish.

Now, you need to wait for your device to reboots and sync with your computer. You can disconnect once the sync is finished.

I was waiting in excitement to see my iPhone working properly again. But to me and my friend’s surprise, the Apple logo was still giving a cold stare at us. I was starting to lose hope when he revealed the ultimate, but a heartbreaking solution.

Third solution: DFU Mode Restore

If the Recovery mode doesn’t fix your iPhone stuck on Apple logo, you may have to enter the DFU mode. Getting into DFU mode is a bit complicated than recovery mode.

Note:  DFU mode will lead to data loss or damage. So, decide if you are ready to take the risk.

Follow the below steps to enter DFU mode:

Step 1: Connect your PC and iPhone. Then open iTunes. Next, long press the Home button along with the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for just 10 seconds.

Step 2: Once the screen is black, release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button till the time a pop up message from iTunes is displayed confirming that your device is detected in recovery mode.

If you see a total black screen, congratulations you are in DFU mode and you can follow the above method (Recovery Mode) to restore your device using iTunes.

However, I was just not ready to lose my data. That’s when he suggested me this perfect solution that did what others couldn’t do. If you have reached till here without fixing your issue, this solution is worth checking out.

Last solution: Use a Software (No Data Loss)

I am thankful to my friend for recommending me TunesKit iOS System Recovery.
