Google Working on Podcast App

Google has been coming up with a new podcast app barely after two months of launching Google Podcast. The company is working on developing a new piece of software for playing podcast. It’s called shortwave and it is being developed by Area 120 team. Area 120 as described by Google as the area of experimentation.

The trademark filings revealed Shortwave will allow users to search, access and play audio files. It will also allow sharing the links of audio files. The Google spokesman says that the shortwave is for spoken word content and it has no connection with Google podcast. The app will focus on spoken word content.

Everyone is looking forward to what Google has to offer now. Google podcast is already a success and it plays well with the company’s Assistant and also runs on its wireless hardware along with Android devices. You just have to type the name of the podcast you are looking for.

Google replied to The Verge in an email that says, “One of the many projects that we’re working on within Area 120 is Shortwave, which helps users discover and consume spoken-word audio in new ways. Like other projects within Area 120, it’s a very early experiment so there aren’t many details to share right now”.

The boundaries on the clarity of the difference between Google Podcast and Shortwave are still hazy, but the tech giant says that it will work for multiple functions.

Like different platform of messaging app offered by Google like Android message, hangouts etc. seems like Google is doing similar with the podcast, with Google podcast already launched another one is coming on the way.

The Google’s spokesperson says that there are not much details to be disclosed but the beta version will be out in few months. Let’s see whether it will gather better response than Google podcast which has 3.4 rating with only over a million download on play store.
