Apple to discontinue services on devices running older software

As per the media report Apple to shut down its online services on devices running older versions including older iOS, macOS, tvOS and Watch OS versions starting in early May.

In an internal document, Apple mentioned that users using older software may receive a push notification from Apple prompting them to update their device to a newer software version as soon as possible.

According to the leaker known as Stella Fudge, access to Apple services except for iCloud is going to stop working on devices running older software.

“Some older software versions will no longer support Apple Services like the App Store, Siri, and Maps. Update your software to the latest available version to continue using these services,” the company said.

Apple didn’t clarify why these services will stop working on the older versions but the changes will only affect to a small percentage of users as a large variety of users are already using the latest ios version.

As per the Apple document dated Feb 14, 2023

• 20% run iOS 15

• 8% run an earlier version of IOS

The latest version of iOS is 16.4 which includes new emojis, web push notifications, voice isolation for cellular calls and other enhancements, bug fixes, and security updates to your iOS devices.

To update to the latest version go to Settings, General, and then software update.
