Apple iPhone 12 Review – The Most Striking Features

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max are all set to be launched in October 2020. There is also a ‘mini’ version of the iPhone 12 in the pipeline. This version of the phone will have all the same features but will be smaller in size and cheaper in price. This exciting lineup of smartphones comes with several new and upgraded features. Naturally, all the focus is on the main product – the iPhone 12.

Here are standout features of iPhone 12

5G Connectivity – 5G connectivity is being mentioned in every advertisement featuring the iPhone 12. Most people won’t be getting access to 5G networks, so it isn’t a feature that should send consumers rushing to the market. However, once 5G networks have been expanded significantly, iPhone 12’s super-fast cellular modem will do wonders for users. Again, a future-oriented feature.

Enhanced Display -Apple has amped up the iPhone 12’s display, adding numerous helpful features. For starters, the Super Retina XDR display looks amazing. Similar to iPhone 11, iPhone 12 also has a 6.1-inch display. But the display screen is now completely OLED.

Going full OLED made sense because the thinner bezels give iPhone 12 a smaller footprint.

The 6.1-inch OLED screen offers –

· Full HD resolution

· Better contrast than iPhone 11

· Highest brightness levels compared to previous iPhones

· The screen also comes with a Ceramic Shield layer to protect the sensitive OLED screen.

Hence, iPhone 12 is more drop-friendly than its predecessors. Overall, the iPhone 12’s screen is far better than its predecessors.

A14 chip -With iPhone 12, users get a 5nm A14 Bionic chip. This chip is faster, consumers less battery charge, and future-proof as it is set to be used in iPad Air, iPad Pro, and the latest MacBook models. Even though a lot of the tech world is not paying too much attention to the A14 chip, it could be the most significant upgrade of the iPhone 12. Users will find this chip being used in a range of Apple devices for at least two years. A14 offers a better CPU and GPU. It’s also equipped with super-fast machine learning (ML) capabilities. Users will get a customized experience – be it while talking to Siri or while using the AI-powered camera tools.

Camera – iPhone 12 comes with a wide-angle lens that allows more light particles can enter the camera.

  • Supports Smart HDR 3 for both photography and HDR video-recording
  • Dolby Vision and Night mode
  • Easy to use the time-lapse feature
  • The front camera supports HDR Dolby Video recording.
  • Night mode on the front camera
  • DeepFusion computational photography on the front screen
  • FaceTime video calls will now be available with HD resolution

Design – The 12 has a squarer design. Flat aerospace-grade aluminum lines encircle the phone’s sides. The front of the phone only has a single piece of strong and durable glass. According to Apple, the iPhone 12 is four times less likely to drop accidentally compared to previous versions. The ceramic crystals, the ultra-flat screen, and the metal edges will help in reducing impact damage.

Battery and Charging – The MagSafe feature, which was first introduced with MacBook models, is back in the latest iPhone 12. The technology uses smartly positioned magnets to boost wireless charging experiences. The magnets in the phone are aligned perfectly to facilitate efficient charging. Users will have to purchase a MagSafe charger. These chargers can support up to 15W wireless charging. In terms of battery capacity, Apple states that the iPhone 12 can offer 15 hours of continuous video playback when fully charged. For the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the number is 17 hours.

Accessories – The iPhone 12 pack won’t come with earpods or a power adaptor. Instead, this year’s pack will feature a fast USB-C to lighting cable. According to the company, most iPhone users already own a pair of earpods and an iPhone adapter, so it doesn’t make sense giving them these gadgets again.

Whenever Apple unveils a new iPhone model, older models don’t stay in the market for too long. However, after launching the much-awaited iPhone 12, the tech giant informed customers that previous iPhone models will still be in stores for at least another year. So, many users will be contemplating which model they should get.

In Comparision with the iPhone 11

Here’s how the iPhone 12 outshines its predecessor –

  • Compared to iPhone 11, iPhone 12’s design is quite similar; only the edges are flatter, giving the phone a squarer look. 12 is 0.9mm thinner and considerably lighter than the previous model.
  • The iPhone 11 had a 7nm A13 chip. iPhone 12’s 5nm A14 Bionic chip is far more efficient and AI-friendly.
  • iPhone 12 weighs 164 grams, 30 grams lesser than iPhone 11.
  • iPhone 12’s camera is much better than iPhone 11’s because of the wide-angle lens.

Is the iPhone 12 Cost-Efficient?

Till now, Apple has released the prices of three versions –

  • iPhone 12 is priced at $799
  • iPhone 12 Pro costs $999
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max costs $1,099

Users who invest in iPhone 12 can expect to use it without needing any device upgrades for at least two years. These long-term considerations make the iPhone 12 surprisingly cost-efficient. Overall, there aren’t’ too many hardware improvements. But, features like 5G connectivity, OLED Super display, and the A14 chip certainly make the iPhone12 far more superior than its previous models.
